Went on a little 3 Mile hike for an overnighter just over the Oregon-Cali border past Applegate Lake with my buddy from work May 4th. Almost dark by the time we got to our destination and lucky to have headlamps.
Got the 11x9 Tyvec tarp set up with Straps and Figure9 Biners, PLUQ with a down blanket inside, and a CCF pad with a Refectix on that and my Ledge River +20 bag. This was my Maiden Voyage into Hammock Camping. Slight rain and got down to the mid to high 30's.
Finally crashed at around 10:30 and other than a nature wake up call, slept in till 8:30. Been years since I slept almost 10 hours and my Family can't believe it. If I can get 6 hours that is a lot with my schedule. Toasty warm and dry as could be
I am definitley no longer a ground dweller!! This is it!!! My buddy has been a hiker for 25+ years and thought I was crazy for giving this a try and was very scepticle about the whole thing.
My pack weighed in at 23lbs. and his 32lbs. The next morning he finally had to crawl into The Hanger and once I draped the Bag over him, He got it! Not going to change over now, but, we have a few more hikes to do together in the next few months and he will.
When I got home and told my Wife about the hike and everything, all she had to say was go more! She could tell that it was a great destressor for me.
A few things I can do different, but, very minor. It was just awsome and fun to set it all up and having everything coming together that was in my mind.
Just want to thank everyone for all the tips and ideas and what a great Forum this is.
THANK YOU!!!
