I am bad about hanging the foot end too low as well. I have seriously considered hanging my line level on my ridgeline. I think it couldn't hurt, especially since as others have posted it can be especially difficult to eyeball on uneven terrain. I remember my first overnight in a hammock. I used tubular nylon webbing that stretched overnight on a relatively short hammock. I used my ridgeline to pull myself back up towards the head end every little bit during the night. Not the best sleep I've ever had. Hang and learn. I just finished sewing my latest DIY double layer yesterday and still have to set up my ridgeline. I'll likely have my line level hanging from it until I get more practice too.

i use one of these on each end of my hammock to dial in the angle i want it........sure wish dutch would come out with these in titanium

Nothing wrong with that. It doesn't make more work, if anything it saves some eye balling and eliminates possible error after a long day.... Id say smart.

If I find myself slipping to the foot end, I usually just turn around and put my head at the other end. It's easier than getting out and re-hanging the whole thing again.

I was thankful that my Clark had a pull loop at the head end the 1st night I hung... used it a few times & then read to put foot end higher, no problems since. The level thing might work, worth a shot if you have issues I guess.

I dont think I have ever hung my hammock with the correct angle but it still beats sleeping on the ground. I think your idea of a line level on your RL is a great idea. Depending on the weight I think I might actually add one to my hammock RL as well. Thanks for the most excellent idea. I love this forum always learning something new and what you thought was a silly idea I cant thank you enough for posting cause I would of never thought of it myself. Thank you.

My solution has been to purchase a line level from Home Depot and hang it on my hammock ridgeline.

I did exactly what you described. Got tired of sliding down toward my feet, so got line levels at the big box hardware store.

In fact, used them this weekend on mine and my wife's hammocks at Reelfoot Lake. Worked like a charm. I leave them on the ridgelines "permanently."

If you need a quick level and your water bottle is transparent just hold it up next to your ridge line. Surface of the water always is level

Well, I have used my iPhone level before. I say whatever works. This past weekend, I just couldn't get my hang right. I was on a hill with the trees one higher up the hill then the other. Plus I was in a hammock I had never slept in before. It was really stretchy. Ever time I got in to test the hang I nearly bottomed out.

I had to keep bumping the tree hugger higher and higher. I think it took me about 6 or 7 times of doing this before I "accepted" (gave in) the angle. I still ended up sinking toward the foot end of the hammock by the middle of the night.

It ended up looking really funny too.
