Exclamation New Setup - New to HF

    Hello,
I was going on a kayak float this past weekend and usually do the Tent thing. Then an REI rep walked by and said if you ever go with a hammock you will never tent camp again. I blew it off and walked around and came back and saw a customer asking questions to one of the reps, they acted like they knew each other. So i chimed in and 2 hours later bought an ENO Double. I ordered a bugnet and the dryfly yesterday. I was out this weekend and made a migshift fly from a sun side panel to a gazebo and sprayed it down with weather sealer etc. (quickly).

SO im now hooked on camping only with a hammock now! I took the double loops out and put in a cabiner and had used ratchet straps on the trees to a 1/4 line with presiks knots to the carbiners. What else can i do? Just looking for ideas that work.

I went to Westmarine and got 100' of AMSTEEL Blue for $.21 cents a foot by price matching redden marine and they met the $.21 price. So Im getting that Thursday and will lash up my whoopie strings etc.

I will then be working on the RL but need to know how to set all this stuff up so that I can get the Fly and Hammock set up quickly. I need thoughts, Hardware to get for what i want to do and for ease of setup. I slept the first night in a big bulky sleeping bag and was horrible with thats but once i found the comfy spot i was out and no neck or pain from sleeping in my normal bed.

I am 138 lbs and 5'6" Have a few ideas. Also, have a friend that does sewing of parachute materials and have access to that to make some of my accessories! Let me know what i could do. I know its endless but want a decent setup to show off to my regular tent gurus!

I already have a buddy wanting to go camping again in 2 weeks! I hope i get him started in hammock camping!

Looks like your off to a great start, The ridgeline for me took a bit of experimentation, but once i got it locked in, it hangs the same no matter how far my trees are.

    Here is my ridgeline ends.

There are other methods also on the forums, take a look in the ridgeline section.

Right off the bat! Don't try sleeping in a sleeping bag in a hammock. It's darn near impossible.
You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Hammock Zone.

Nice job! You jumped in feet first and you're off to a great start! There is a lot of depth to hammock camping and it sounds like you have your bearings.

    Welcome to the forums too!

I just read through the links, the 84 pages on the whoopie slings has me thinking.... I confirmed with my buddy we are camping the weekend of the 19th. I warned him its not going to be a resort camping where the showers and toilets are close by..... I should have all my stuff and going downstairs to hang the hammock from the floor joists in the basement to test out lengths for my RL's.
Ill post picks as i can.

www.tothewoods.net is a good site for a comprehensive introduction to hanging- if you want to buy a book see http://theultimatehang.com/ as well..

You've got your hammock, now you need to be able to stay warm and dry. You can use your sleeping bag in a hammock - maybe unzipped halfway as a top quilt.
