Grosgrain for UQ ends channel

I'm making a full length UQ for my perpetually-cold wife, and I'm all done except for the end (head and foot) channels. I already hemmed it, but it was a hack job, so it won't work as a channel as is. Will a grosgrain channel weaken the seal to the hammock? And does anybody know the weight per foot of 1" grosgrain?

I'd rather not use grosgrain due to weight unless I have to, so any other suggestions would be appreciated too.

I wonder if wide polyester/nylon ribbon would work in place of the grosgrain? Seems logical to me, but that doesn't mean it's right

If you have any spare fabric..whittle up some channels with that.
