Want to help our military boys???

This morning when I logged on the first thing I saw was a picture of some of our Military boys making the most out of some cheap cargo nets as hammocks with ponchos for tarps. The first thing I thought was "Why do they have to lay in such uncomfortable hammocks when I can DIY one, with 6 foot whoopies for about $25 bucks." This then brought me to think of all of the DIYers here that make their own gear and a little light went off inside my head. (believe me it doesn't happen much)
Why not see if anyone else would be willing to make and send, overseas, some decent hammocks and tarps for these gentleman. I'm not suggesting anyone go out and purchase a $100 dollar hammock, but just some nice DIY stuff that would get them off the ground. I'm positive it would be a morale booster to them. I'm going to get some fabric this weekend (probably camo or other subdued color) and do just that. Just wanted to put this out there to see if the very generous people here would be willing to part with some of their hard earned money and time to help those that have given us so much. Thanks for reading and any help that you folks decide to give these men. Again, Thanks.

Do you have a Point of Contact (POC) and an address to send them to??? I wouldn't mind making one once my fabric arrives.

No ma'am I don't yet. I was going to look this up when I got a little closer to sending mine out. Shouldn't be very hard to find out though. Thanks for the reply.

I have a black 1.9 DIY I'd be happy to send. I was considering putting it in the PIF thread, but like this idea much better...could easily get the material to make more, and get amsteel through my day job really cheap as well

Nice idea. But definately do research if sending out of the states. Many times I have heard packages don't make it to their destination.

A suggestion. Approx 32 states have state guard units. We are an all volunteer organization. Any gear & uniforms come out of our pockets. Some states get a better budget but still very minimal. which helps supply mre. Vests or kevlar at a lower price.

I have personally responded to search & rescue. Tornado clean up. We train the same as national guard. But will only deploy within my state.

My reason for suggesting is if you want to help your local community - state guard soldiers will deploy to respond to disasters or do search & rescue. Many loosing days of work. In some states employers do not have to give those days off with pay.

During the day, I support the USMC as a contractor. I will gather some info and post when I get it.

Go to your local Veteran service officer or VFW. They are almost always sending things out already. If you can't find them find a recruiter, or your local guard unit. One of there will be able to help you send them. I will get my dad's machine out next weekend and send one too.
