DIY'ed cat cut tarp from 10x10 ez up

Thought I would share the tarp I made over the last couple mornings. First off if you guys havent figured this out by now Im kind of a "upcycler", one mans trash is another mans treasure kinda guy. I was crusing the neighborhood after our citywide garage sale and found an ez up canopy that took a pretty good beating from the wind so I figured I would take it home. Worst case scenerio I would cover my BBQ grill with it. But needing a rainfly for this weekends hike I decided to try my best to salvage it. And this is the end result . I would like to thank whoever came up with the idea of hangin the material on a wall and draping a string for a cat cut . I must have tried 20 times to hand draw one before I found that gem of a trick. The ridge ends are reinforced with extra material and I sandwiched it all between the nylon loops . Tieouts are just folded over and sandwiched between the nylon. I thought I would add the view of Bear Butte I get from my front yard and my electronic material collection vehicle.I dont know what it weighs but I will get an measurement when I go to the grocery store later just for anyone thinking of doing this.ps there is a good 20 mph wind right now Enjoy

Some mighty fine handy work. Also nice ride. The wife has an electric assist bike and calls it her motorcycle, I'll have to make one of these so we can go to sturgis together.

Great job on the tarp but the bike caught my eye. How did you make that thing?

I collect stupid things from the trash on my way home from work sometimes, so the frame consist of .. Black gas pipe for the spine , some square tubing from a shelf for the bottom , bedframes make up the battery box, a mountain bike front fork , and an old tractor seat. All the electronics came off of ebay. It does not require registration, insurance, or gas. Top speed of 38 mph 10 mile range .Oh and it weighs a TON I found a 20ft stick of aluminum at the dump the other day so we are going to be working on an aluminum version as soon as my buddy gets his spool gun fixed. Sorry to get off topic - BOB

    Tarp looks amazing.

Can you explain the wall hanging and string to make the lines for the cat cut?

    What you will need.
    4 Thumbtacks/push pins
heavy string 2 feet longer than your tarp 550 cord or amsteel
    a long wall
    chalk
rotary cutter (highly recommend) or scissors

Fold your material in half along the "ridgeline"
Pin up the top two corners to the wall nice and tight
tie a knot on one pin and a adjustable know on the other
let the string sag in the middle about 6" and mark your line with chalk on the fabric. I did that to all three sides and then used my rotary cutter while it was on the wall and cut along the chalk line corner to corner. Dont tell my wife!!!! End with Gorsgrain or a folded and sewn edge. Good luck
