    My Suspension

    Hi All
There has been some talk lately of light weight suspension set ups. I thought I would share my Suspension set up with you. Not only is it light weight it is also very simple to use.

The hammock is to the left and the tree is to the right in these photos.

After wrapping the webbing around the tree, I clip the two ends together with a carabiner. and tie a clove hitch by just clipping it through the biner.

Then I pull the suspension tight and pull the clove hitch tight.

Then I add a slippery half hitch to hold it in place. and ensure it does not slip.

And thats it, simple to set up and take down.
    Thanks
    Gunn

    hey Gunn-
    thanks for sharing.
with the clove hitch, if you want to adjust the tension do you just slip the knot off the biner and redo in another place, or can you "slide" the hitch along the rope if it isn't under tension?

    thanks

Both ends of the hammock are the same, so once I have it centred and pulled tight and locked off with the slippery hitch I don't have to retension it.

How much rope do you have between the biners and the hammock?

I am only guessing but I think about 6-8 ft.
If you want I can go and measure it.

No that's not necessary. I currently have a hodge-podge of a suspension system that I would like to stream line. I use rings to adjust, with ~12 of strap running from the tree to the rings. Then I have a high strength line from the rings to a carabiner which connects to more line that is also what I have used to whip the hammock. Hope that's not too confusing . I'm trolling for ideas to redo the whole set up.

Any chance of seeing how the strap is attached to the tree and the line to the hammock. Also what type of line is it and what's it's strength rating? I have 15' straps from strapworks with a CC buckle. It's simple and effective but heavy.

    HI
The strap is wrapped in this photo from the back of the tree around to the front, but I will sometimes wrap from the front of the tree, around the back and back to the front. I also wrap around the tree and pass one end of the webbing through a loop and attach the binner to the other loop.

the hammock in this photo is a hennessy but on my DIY hammock I have 4mm dynemer cord that I get from a boating shop, I forget the rating but it is very strong. It is used for dingy controls and will not stretch.

I would have to take photos of the hammock end but on my DIY it is just a basic whipping same as these pics from Just Jeffs site
