Just got into the hammock and tarp thing. About to buy some kelty triptease. Amazon has it for 14$ per 50ft. Do I need more than that?

It depends on how many tie outs you have on the tarp and how long you want your likes to be.

All a matter of personal preference, I suppose.
I run a 30 ft ridge line. (between trees)
And I like my tie outs longer than most people, some are 15 ft, some are 20 ft.
It gives more flexibility in tying out to other trees for porch mode.
You can always work around longer lines, but if they are too short maybe you can't quite reach that branch you had your eye on.
My ridge line is 40' ish my tie outs are 10' Lawson glow wire
4 main tie outs and 4 door tie outs. Ok so 10ft would be concidered short... I want to be able to tie out to trees for poach mode.
I mix my tie puts up. I think I have a , 6', 8', 10' and 15'. That way, if a corner or two can get to a tree, I move it. I also carry a little extra line in case.
my tie-outs are whoopies made from zing-it and they adjust from 12" to 30" . have 6 of them. i also carry two 12' lengths for side pull-outs. it's for a 9'-11' cuben z-pack.
i would suggest you setting up your tarp with any kind of string the way you want it and them measure the amount of string you used. everybody is different. i never set up in porch mode and i hang hammock 12" from ground which puts my ridgeline at about 5' high.

I'd say get 100 ft. It's good to have extra cordage with your gear stash and always good to carry a little extra cordage out in the woods IMO.

I just went through rigging up my tarp. I started with 100' spool. . .
used 36' for continuous ridge line
made (2) 6' tie-outs
and (2) 10' tie-outs for porch mode on the opening side of the hammock.
I made up a 2' loop for a prusik for each guyline (6)
. . .from 100' spool that left me with 20' to keep in the pack.
