For my tarp, I'm always using the taut-line, bowline, and two half-hitches.

The Prusik and Klemhiest are big favorites for many uses as well, especially for tarp adjustment on a ridgeline. Of course, there's the Marlin Spike Hitch for Whoopie Sling users.

First off I want to say I love the bowline. I don't use it anywhere in my hammock rig, but I use it in multiple other apps. As for my hammock rig, I use Square knots for whipping the ends of the hammock. Slippery half-hitch and Prusik for my tarp ridge line. And Figure 8 follow-through on the top of my guy lines of my tarp, and Clove Hitch at the stakes. All of which i learned in boyscouts and refreshed when i went to the fire academy.

Where in the set up are you using the bowline? I pitched last night in a light rain then spent the night sleeping in a steady rain in the woods in front of my house and it was awesome. I used the continuous ridgeline with a taut-line hitch and two half hitches and thought it worked great.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear when I wrote that. I mostly use the bowline on my tarp guy lines, not in the ridge line.

I have elastic tarp tensioners on my tie-outs/guy lines and I use the bowline at the tie-out. I guess the other knot I use a lot is the clove hitch. The clove hitch is most often used on one side of the elastic and also when I use stakes.

I have an example illustration on tarp tensioners on my site and you can see where the bowline comes into play.

+1 on the animated knots. I watch them on youtube all the time. I'd have to say the trucker's hitch is my favorite hammocking knot.
    with two m's, like "hammock."
