    Which fabric for hammock?

If you were going to make a hammock for camping, which fabric would you choose?

    2.5 oz poly teffeta
    1.9 oz ripstop nylon

Please let me know which you would choose and why...I am going to order a hammock by Papa Smurf, but I can't decide on the fabric.
    Thanks

What is your weight? And, do you prefer a hard or soft mattress at home?

I weigh about 185 and typically prefer a hard mattress.
I would not consider myself an ultralight person by any means, but given the opportunity, I would take the lighter weight version if there is no down side.

If there is any chance you will use a pad, get the double.

Warbonnet has a great guide here.

+1 on the double. It gives you more options and the weight difference is almost nonexistent.

    options:

1.1 single will hold you fine.
1.1 double will do great with a pad, and have fewer mosquito issues.
1.9 single is more durable, and will stretch less..
Taffeta would be heavy, but again, no issues.

I'm 210# and use a single 1.1 with no problems, but it's too stretchy for some folks.

OK, so I adjusted my original post...no more double layer (cost prohibitive).

Basically it is a choice between the ripstop nylon or poly teffeta...what are the advantages and disadvantages of these fabrics?

    Thanks again.

I prefer the feel of the polyester taffeta. But I'm not a gram weenie. The polyester does not stretch the way nylon ripstop can. Plus I find it feels softer and smoother to my skin.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Ah ha....that is exactly the comment I have been searching for. Thank you.
There can't be that many yards of fabric in a hammock...I assume that is what the weight of the fabric is measuring (2.5 oz per yard and 1.9 oz per yard).
    Thanks.
