I keep hearing/seeing these "descender" rings. They seam a little bigger than is really needed for 1" straps. Are there any smaller rings that are OK to use? Why not just a couple of 1" welded rings?
Do they have a real advantage over the Dutchware type adjuster clip things?
Super strong. Super light weight.
I'm not an avid climber, but I have some experience. My thinking the reason they are so much bigger than the 1" webbing, is so the webbing doesn't bind up or twist. As it might in a smaller diameter ring. IDK i may be wrong.

they have a rating ...but i have seen smaller decenter rings...about1.2 dia

I went to them after experiencing a failure using cinch buckles. Afterward, i notice a lot of fraying on the strap that didn't fail. The buckles that I was using have some sharp edges that can come into play. Possibly operator error, but I decided to do away with the sharp edges and go with the rings.

The welds can also cause wear to your straps.

I found the descender rings to be very helpful when setting up my Hennessey which comes with a rope as the suspension. Descender rings cut my set-up time in half with the HH. I’ve never tried using them with webbing.
Unless you can cut a pair of D rings off an old motorcycle helmet, they should fit and the will definitely be strong enough

I think is the weight, strength and availability. There are many other things out there that are smaller. The problem that I've seen is that most of it is not rated. Personally I would not trust non-rated stuff that's not steel and then you're probably over 11g.
