if my wife had to go outdoors at the hotel to get the ice, we were roughing it.
if i were you start with renting a small cabin w/a bathroom, next trip eliminate the bathroom. then the walls of the cabin (lean-to),... tent,.... finally hammocks. just kidding . the Trump Casino in AC has a weekday special
"Tenting is equivalent to a bum crawling into a cardboard box, hammocking is an art" KK
I'm lucky, my wife loves to hang as does the rest of my kids. Dog is the only one still on the ground. It doesn't sound like she's doesn't like hanging so much as not liking sleeping/being outdoors.
Start her off in the backyard. Not sleeping but lounging. A good book and you bringing her colds drinks as needed. Foot massage while she is in the hammock couldn't hurt either. Rig an under quit so her back is warm. Get her used to the idea that hammocks are comfortable. If she dozes, even better.
After that take her car camping and bring her favorite food and drink. I use a thermacell to keep bug/Mosquitos at bay. This seems to work well as does the netting on my wife WBBB.
Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

I've been working on my wife for 3 years now. It started with hanging out in the back yard in the sunshine. Then taking the kids to the park & hanging out in the sunshine. Then naps in the back yard with a blanket. A trip to Yellowstone (in a trailer), but hanging out at camp in the sunshine (with the bug net up).
We've done several day hikes...
We've progressed to a couple weeks ago - she slept out in the back yard with my 12 YOA daughter. She was encased by 'our' HG UQ & TQ when it was in the low 50's. She & my daughter only came in around 4:30, because they got rained on (no tarp up).
If I could overcome the 'bear-in-the-woods' bathroom issues, I think that she'd be a backpacker. (I'm not willing to pack in a port-a-potty seat).
Yeah mine sleeps in the tent with the dog while I hang.
My girlfriend got in my hammock one afternoon last summer and she took a nap. I think thats what got her into it. But I'd say she still prefers tent camping, because it makes it easier to snuggle I suppose ?
Anyway.... My advice would be to give up hammock forums for a while (or lighten up), and stop tinkering with amsteel as well as other hammock related paraphernalia. If you and the kids talk about it a lot give that a rest too. My girlfriend likes hammock and uses hers, but if she sees me on here she usually comments something to the effect of, "You're OBSESSED!"
Maybe your wife feels like hammocks get more attention than she does, or gets tired of you and the kids talking about it a lot. Same thing happened to my friends sister with this documentary series. She was so annoyed with us talking about it all the time we couldn't get her to watch PART of an episode. Didn't have anything to do with the content, or if she might like it. She was just annoyed.
Also, Does your wife tent camp with you already? If so take her tent camping on hard, rocky, sloped, root-covered, wet ground maybe even with lots of bugs. Then plead with her to try the hammock for just one night.
I just made sure I got a girl that has the same interests as me...problem solved.
It helps if you are able to get out what she doesn't like about it… My wifes main concern is privacy when changing clothes out in the open. She would prefer a tarp that is big enough to give her the privacy needed.
Shes a cold sleeper too, and has not hammock camped enough to learn how to tinker with her quilts to be warm. Sometimes you just have to go out and do it enough to gain experience.
Four pages and nobody hit the obvious solution.
Tell her that if she doesn't want to go, your girlfriend will. That should solve the problem one way or the other.
