    Tarp Bottom edge Measurement

So I've got in 7 yards of SilNylon and I'm wanting to leave enough on the ends to make a set of doors that I can move around the tarp to where ever they are needed. So I'm trying to decide on the bottom edge length of my tarp.

I've already decided on 11 foot ridge line and I'm set on a 8-9 foot span, but how much should I leave for the bottom edge? Is 5 feet enough? 6 feet too much? What does your's measure?

P.S. Making a Cat cut hex tarp between the OES Standard & Deluxe.

Check out my diy cat, hex tarp. The way I cut the fabric saved me more than a yard over what it would have been if I had done the standard ridgeline seam. I also have pdf's of the plans in there for reference. I think I used 8 yards though but I had a ton of coverage on the sides. Also, and i haven't seen this done yet, you could always make one side shorter and the other longer giving great coverage for porch mode but sufficient coverage from the rain on the other side.

For reference, the bottom edge of my McCat Deluxe is ~5'-6".

7 yds = 21 feet of 60" wide (ish) material.
You said your doing a 11 foot ridge...
    11' x 2 = 22'
The way I figure it, your short here? err, am I missing somethin'?

Two panels at 11' long is pretty standard. Remember your going to loose some length for hem allowance. Standard ridgeline seam, yadayada..

You'll have four weird shaped scraps from the end cat cuts. They may be salvageable for a set of franken-doors.

Started working on the tarp last night, got a lot of progress done. Won't be able to complete it till Monday or tuesday night. I hope to put up pics and a write-up by next weekend.

Oh and I'm fairly certain that I have more than enough for the doors left.

11foot ridgeline verses a 5-6foot bottom edge.it'll work but from myown limited experence tarp making. the SERIOUSLY short bottom edge does nothing to shave weight off the assembly. the reason being that the door size has to make up the difference for the less wieight of the tarp main body! the reason being that youre looking at two doors on each end...that's 4doors per tarp!!! even if you address only one end i think you'll find that youre adding weight, rather than shaveing it off.

I'm only making one set of removable doors, not two. I figure I will be able to move the doors to where they are needed or leave them in the pack or even at home when not needed.
