    hello one and all

I am a 51yo gentleman from southern NY. I have been into the outdoors since i was a small child. For many years i was an avid backpacker, but the last 10 or 15 have seen me do most of my camping from the back of a motorcycle.

I am new to hammocks, and wonder how they would be for me as i am a side sleeper.... but obviously i am here, and very curious to see if this is something that i would enjoy... perhaps for many years. I do aspire to hike the whole AT someday.

I am a mandatory side sleeper. Yet, for some reason, I sleep on my back in my hammock.

Welcome to the forums, from Ohio and another side sleeper. If your hammock is wide, side sleeping is absolutely no problem.

I spent my first night out in a Warbonnet Blackbird hammock last weekend and had no problem sleeping on my side.

I'm a side-sleeper with a preference to sleeping on my right side; they made my hammock a "leftie" so that when I'm lying on my right side I'm looking toward the zippered opening.

You may want to consider your own preferences for sleeping right or left when ordering if the hammock is asymetrical (I believe most of the Warbonnet and Hennessy hammocks are asymetrical).

and I've turned on die hard stomach sleepers to the gathered end hammocks and had to poke them 15 min's later to wake them up.
The human body responds and sleeps differently when all points of the body are supported....I'm thinking the closest thing to sleepin in a hammock is sleeping in water...and that reminds me of an old Hawaii-5-0 episode where the man is put into a sensory deprivation champer-a sealed suit floating in water; but no one remembers that episode!
But side sleeping is a non issue in any of the modern lightweight backpacking gathered end hammocks like HH's, Warbonnets, Dream-Hammocks, etc.
I can't say about bridge hammocks; I've only slept on my back in them.
