Correction: I just had a (first) look at the Exped line and it comes attached (via 'soft shackle' aka eyelet and stopper knot) to a ~4ft 1" strap with loops on each end.
So, unlike the Exped videos I've seen online, the rope does not pass around the tree....
The Exped eyelet line looks at first glance to be a custom braided construction, not spliced eyes, so perhaps not a good candidate for DIY. Eye loops are about 1" with 2" of solid braid between eyes.
I could post a pic, but doubt that the black cordage would reveal much.
The alpine butterfly is a great knot but I'm guessing you'd only have ~33% of your original strength in amsteel. I'm basing that off of figure 8s and bowlines being in that neighborhood. Take a look at the charts on p17 (p22 of the pdf) of this paper that compare convention rope to amsteel with knots. Amsteel needs a minimum of a 8:1 ratio on bends with 10:1 being recommended. I believe with nylon it's only 3:1.
There is also data in there about different types of slices. Keep in mind that Samson rates Amsteel with an eye splice, hence the reason it retains 100% of the rated strength.
so a bunch of cont loops would work then...? i like that idea better then any knots
Here's what the Exped eyelet line looks like- the 'eyes' are braided right into the line construction, not just a typical bury, from what I can see.
Using Dynaglide to make a daisy-chain with 2 locked Brummel splices every inch, my HH suspension is exquisitely light. It seemed ok when tried in the back yard...no stretch, no breakage. Super fast set up with straps, dutch clips and a carabiners. BUT...will the splices REALLY hold all night, every night? Does anyone know? I am planing a 5 day pack in a couple days and need reassurance.

Hang your hammock tonight and load it with weight to about 150% of your weight. Leave it up over night. Check in the morning.
I'd be leery of testing any new system on the trail like that. That's just me though. I also wouldn't use dyna on my suspension, but I'm a pretty stout fella so I stick to Amsteel or muletape.
