Is all cuben fiber water proof?

Just a quick question---is all cuben fiber water proof---or is there a breathable kind that woud allow a hammock to breath?
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

It is a fiber or fabric-reinforced film, not a coated fabric, isn't it?

    Breathable Cuben

I've never used it myself, so I can't comment on its merits.

    Yes, a string/thread/fabric-reinforced film

However, there is a breathable cuben now; see
    zpacks.com/materials
    It's $60/yard however; $240 hammock anyone? Howabout a $500+ Blackbird?

I'd rather have a nice set of down quilts myself.

EDIT:haha! I knew someone would beat me too it.

I've never used it or even seen it. I suspect it is similar to Type14 tyvek reinforced with dyneema thread though.

It's being experimented with in this thread below. Check it out. I think it's a real neat idea and crazy light.

Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

60 bucks a yard------WOW!!!!!!!!! I don't think I'll be going that route for quite a while! Sounds interesting though!

The cuben used in the thread Lazy River Road mentioned is not breathable cuben. The cuben used in that thread is regular cuben. Cuben is essentially a loose weave of Mylar or Dyneema sandwiched between layers of a plasticy film. This film is a vapor barrier. Using the waterproof-breathable cuben for a hammock would be pointless as it weighs 1.42oz-sqyd. At a price of $60 a sqyd you would have to be insane to use this to make a hammock. Good 'ol 1.1oz nylon is a much better option.
