Indoor Hanging: 3 studs + equalized climbing anchor

Hi all,

I'm interested in setting up a system to hang in my garage for testing purposes. I've read a lot of the indoor hanging threads, but I haven't seen anyone specifically discuss an equalized climbing anchor.

Has anyone tried an equalized climbing anchor attached to 2 or 3 studs on each side? See picture below. It sounds like a lot of people have no problems with 3/8" eye lags in a single stud. But I'm 260 lbs., and my wife will be very unhappy if I pull down walls in our house, or if I break my tailbone when a lag bolt pops loose!

More specific details on my idea:

19' distance between walls
3x 3/8" eye bolts per side (equals approximately 32" spread among 3 studs)
Equalized with 1" tubular climbing webbing

At the proper 30-degree angle, my 260 lbs. should be divided 87 lbs. per eye bolt.

Any input would be appreciated!

Digga I can't add much, but I would like to say thank you for posting your work. I am also 260 so I share many of your concerns. I have been searching for a way to hang in my house and your thread just pointed me in the right direction. Thank you!!

Hangers have often attached a board to 3 studs to spread the weight. Your Anchor of choice is attached to the center of the spreader board.

I think it should work. Anything spreading out the load would help.

Another option might be to spread the load between one anchor in a wall stud and another in a roof truss above. Anybody have any thoughts on that?

yup thinking of the same idea
the first one with a continuous was one of my first ideas so it would kinda self balance the load

my other ideas was a wall plate made of 2 layers of 3/4 with large T nuts behind and climb angle things at diff spots so I could adjust height some up or down with various mounting heights

I think I posted some thoughts on at least the larger plate and mulit point a bit ago in a thread

one other thing I had thought in my one corner wall was one off each corner to help share the load

another I was thinking was kinda like a hammock stand but with one upright on each side and just secure that to the wall to keep it going side to side so the top ridge pole would take all the pressure

and one other was a ridge pole and then just use something on the wall to mount it to like a truss hanger kinda idea the ridge pole would take the compression load and the load on the wall would be almost all straight down rather than trying to pull the wall inward which I thought could work well to

also did wonder about a truss and ridge pole but I am at the wrong angle in our room

but could be cool to have a ridge pole into a beam truss setup and be able to adjust the height if you want

Good idea. I'd say swap out the tubular webbing for something static. The dynamic properties of tubular webbing will cause it to stretch while you're in the hammock.
