I have yet to find any ripstop let alone sil at my local WM.

Sil is very rare. In all my WM fabric finds I have only seen sil twice.

At least your Walmart still stocks fabrics. Ours are basically out of the business. I gather that they're trying to recast their image, away from the rural, USEFUL image that Sam Walton used.
On the bright side, I managed to rat hole away over twenty yards of sil-nylon before they did so!
Picked up 6 yards of woodland pattern ripstop at walmart for $3.97. I assume this is the stuff you're referring to?
I'm trying to ID it. No postal scale (yet). I _think_ it's urethane-coated nylon--smoot/shiny on one side only, water beads, does not soak through. If you've picked up the stuff, any guesses?
Thanks!
Picked up some of the same type stuff here in NC. I have not had an opportunity to look at it hard. My first shot at trying to ID it will be a burn test. Mine has no fraying edges, water does not go through, ripstop pattern does not seem to be actual threads. It was interesting though so I bought the bolt.
I'll figure our somthing to do with it.

I have the same stuff, it appears to be PU coated. Is heavy, I weighed a piece and then from that figured it weighs nearly 3 ounces per yard. Sews good, not sure what I will make from it though. I think the ripstop is not real ripstop but I could be wrong. Looks more like it is embossed onto the surface.
I also spoke to the manager of the department and she confirmed that WM is getting out of the fabric business. They are in the process of resetting all the stores. So, if you see stuff in the $1 bin that you like and want, better get it now.

We have 2 WalMarts in my area. One closed down it's fabric dept. last week. Sales rep said they were making it into crafting center. She said they are keeping the other fabric area in the second store. I just wonder for how long.
I Have found the one by me is always busy. Every time I go I Have to wait in line to get my fabric cut. Some of the others I Have to wait for an associate to show up. Hope they keep the busy ones.

I scored some of the same thing at Wally World by my mother-in-law's house. It's pretty heavy and I agree with Mrprez, the rip-stop isn't true rip-stop. I'm pretty sure it's nylon.
I'm thinking about a rain/pack cover for my UL 60. It will also double as a gear hammock while in camp (although, the fabric is a little heavy for this).
