Maybe try cross the suspension for the quilts over the top of the hammock so that it can't hop underneath like that.

it also might need to be a bit tighter.

Any day above ground is a good day and IMHO it does not matter how its done. Neo I think you are showing a great side of hanging which is you don't need fancy down (even though it may be nice to have) to hang successfully in the cold, warmth and be comfortable at that as well.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I can see how people don't like UQs. They are expensive and they should work with you having to buy clips and tweak the suspension. It should should be easy. There is no wrong or right way to hang. It's all about being comfortable. Some of us like pads some of like quilts. Gold jacket, green jacket who gives a hoot.

Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest places if you look at it right.

Maybe your quilts are too small, Ive made 2 uq and the first one was too small, the second one fits awesome.

If the pads are working for you, then stay with them. It sounds like you have given the UQ a fair try out without success. To each his or her own. Hammock hanging is supposed to be about comfort.....so use what's comfortable for you. At least you can easily find a new home for the under quilt and recoup your investment.
