Close call for one of our own

HF member and DangerBird user Miguel had a close call on the AT yesterday.
    http://postholer.com/journal/viewJou...&event_id=1302
Here's an excerpt from yesterday's update.

"The second thing that happened was a tree nearly took me out while I was in my hammock. I was very very lucky I wasn't severely hurt or worse. About 7:30 am I was laying in my hammock when I felt myself rocketing toward the ground...I also. Heard a loud cracking sound followed by a heavy thud right next my head. I found myself literally trapped in the hammock with a tree within inches of my body. When rolled my head it hit against the tree. The zipper near my head was wrapped around the tree and I couldn't escape from the hammock. I struggled for twenty minutes to escape. Did I mention I am claustrophobic? Eventually I was able to contort my body enough to just barely reach and unzip the zipper. It was a harrowing experience to say the least. I will do a much better job of choosing my trees in the future!"

Thank God he escaped without injury or worse.

Thank God the tree missed him!
This is a good reminder to check out the surroundings as much as possible.

Most importantly, how's the hammock? But in all seriousness, glad he's alright.

Glad he's ok and a good reminder for all of us to be vigilant when selecting our hang sites.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
