    Overnighter: Carver's Gap-19E

If I get clearance from my doc on Tuesday, I'm celebrating by doing an overnighter in the Roan Highlands from Carver's Gap to 19E. One of the most beautiful hikes, and my personal favorite, on the southern AT.

Plan on leaving Wednesday, 5/16 and camping at Overmountain Shelter for the night. Up Thursday morning, chow, camp chores and over Little Hump and Hump Mountains, then down to 19E.

    Anyone interested in joining me?

It's a great hike! I recommend making shuttle reservations with Mountain Harbour Hostel and parking a car there. Show up early and have their breakfast, it's to die for! Lots of climbing that is well rewarded by some spectacular views! You'll love it!

Yes, I'm planning for this Wednesday, pending MD approval on Tuesday.

I'd appreciate the shuttle, but you certainly don't have to. You don't owe me for anything that I can recall, but I'd sure be a might thankful for it.

I'd sure appreciate it. I'll see if anyone else is going and catch up with you Tuesday or so. I'll PM you my cell number, also. Much obliged, MM!

Thanks Hooch! Yeah, I'm really looking forward to this one. I've been in contact with Mountain Harbour and plan to leave some cars there. Some in the group are going to camp there Friday night but a couple of us are going to night hike up to Roan High Knob. Do you know if there are good hanging areas near the Roan High Knob shelter?

No sweat. Enjoy the hike, it's nothing short of spectacular. It's by far my favorite hike on the AT thus far and one of the most beautiful hikes in the southeast. I hope the sun and the longhorns are out on top of Hump Mountain for you!

There are plenty of hang spots by Roan High Knob Shelter. Some HF members had a cold weather hang there last year, and there was plent of space to accomodate everyone. No shortage of trees there at all.

Oh, take a good camera. Trust me, you'll want pics of your hike! And just my opinion: The side trail to Grassy Bald is worth the trip!

Thanks Bro! I will definitely be taking the side trail to Grassy Ridge. I plan on taking the sling light and sitting up there for a nice long lunch break. Hiking from Max Patch to Hot Springs this weekend and I'm pretty stoked about it. But I can honestly say that I can't wait to do Roan Highlands. Hopefully we'll hook up on the trail sometime soon.
