What do you do with the excess webbing?

What kind of knot do you use to contain excess webbing and keep it off the ground, and out of the mud?

I tie a slippery half hitch...same with my whoopies and excess line on my tarp ridge line .

Niteze makes a 6 inch heavy duty "Twist-ties" that work great.
Used to use thick, postal rubber bands but found they don't store for long periods very well.

Slippery half hitch. I pull the loop through until the webbing is off the ground.

When i first put my strap around the tree instead of pulling all of the webbing through the fixed loop, i only pull about 3 or so feet through...which makes another loop. That leaves all of the rest of the webbing hanging out the other side of the fixed loop. I do this for two reasons. First it gets the excess off the ground. Second it's easy to untie. Just pull the tail end and it comes out of the loop and off the tree with one pull. I do not have to retrieve any webbing through the fixed loop as i did when i fed all the webbing through the fixed loop. The only thing i caution when setting up is to make sure you are on the correct portion of the webbing when you connect to your hammock. Or when you sit, you will go crashing down. Not speaking from experience though..just common sense..lol

I use a chain sinnet (http://www.animatedknots.com/chainsi...matedknots.com). It's just a series of slip knots tied one after the other. A simple tug releases it. FWIW, I use the same thing for my 100 foot extension cords. Once tied loosely -- about 6-8 inches wide -- I fold it up and stack it on a shelf.
