I have found that the longer hammock (to a point I suppose) is more comfortable.

I never could get truely comfortable in the short Bayer.

I was much more comfortable in the 9' Traveler.

I am MUCH more comfortable in my new 10' traveler.

Try making the hemmock longer than you think you need, that may help.

Hey, I'm new here, and just recently started sleeping in a hammock. For me, I had to use ear plugs in order to fall asleep. I just could not get used to the quietness (and the stupid neighbors' dogs barking all night long) without ear plugs. Of course, it helps to be tired and ready to sleep when you climb into the hammock.

Bugs and birds and wind. Maybe that could be keeping me awake and making me restless (its more of a restless feeling than an uncomfortable/hurt/pain kind of feeling....I just feel like I can't sit still for some reason...unless I'm trying to sleep on my side then it truly is just an awkward feeling)
I have a terrible time sleeping in my back yard, and some times at developed camp grounds full of other campers, but usually have no trouble on the trail. Every kind of noise from car door slamming and engines starting, dogs barking, central air coming on- always wake me up. No matter how comfortable I am. I need to sleep with ear plugs, and I am going to soon.

Well then here's my plan of attack so to speak..
    1. Change my whipping to HeadChange's style as opposed to the "experimental" asym style I found someplace else on here. Also use some ear plugs to block out the noises I'm not use to. Problem here is that I'm not use to utter silence either. So that may or may not help.
    2. If that doesn't help much I'll try a longer hammock. I'll stick with it for a while using different whipping styles till I find what works best.
    3. If that doesn't work, maybe normal hammocks just aren't for me. In that case, I guess my last option is to attempt a bridge hammock.

Sounds like a plan. If you find some good earplugs let me know. I've had no luck getting any to stay in my ears.

    Good luck!

I feel bad when someone tells me they can't get comfortable. I slept in a tent from 1978 - 2007. Got a hammock last year after Perkolady told me how much she loved hers and it's sooooo much better for comfort! I absolutely love it.

Last time I was out in my Hennessy, I slept right through a rainstorm that woke others. I also use earplugs. Guess that's why I didn't hear rain!

I hope you find your sweet spot real soon. It will be worth it!

I found some of these at Lowes, I think it was Lowes. They are the only one I have been able to keep in.
