I MAY be wrong but I believe working load and breaking strength are two different things. Try reading the fine print on the ratchet straps and find a different number I haven't seen a ratchet strap with 1 inch webbing that isn't strong enough to support a hammock. Maybe one of the more experienced hangers will chime in on this.

I memory serves, the working load is usually 10% of the breaking strength thus giving a 10x safety factor.

Ok, so I'm having trouble figuring out how to do this with the proper equipment, so I think I actually might just order a suspension kit

That's exactly what you need. Ring buckles and straps. The guys at Tree to Tree will hook you up. If you order today, you can probably have it in time for your trip, but call just to make sure.

ok, so i ended up getting some ratchet straps with a working load of 433 lbs, and a breaking load of 1300 pounds with hooks on the end. I may just end up ordering from tree to tree for my next hang. I just wanted to make sure I could go this weekend, I wont' be able to get another free weekend for a while.
One last question, so these ratchet straps have hooks on the end, should I take a hack saw to the hooks and replace them with carabiners, or should I be ok with hooks?

Use the hooks. When you get a proper suspension setup, you'll still have a serviceable set of ratchet straps.

This is exactly what I did before I bought a set of whoopie slings

+1 on the ratchet straps. just use them as is and once you find the suspension that works for you, keep them to use as, you know, ratchet straps.
