I did a double pass through the channel like the stock suspension was ran, haven't had any problems so far.

The major thing that I'm worried about is the fact that this allows the whoopie sling to clinch onto the fabric since it can freely tighten or loosen and I was wondering if this would be damaging to the hammock. thanks for the help
That'll work fine. If it still bothers you, pass it through the channel twice, or if you don't trust the stitching, either knot or whip the end and attach it that way.
