old tent and cheap sleeping bag underquilt

I have shaped a cheap sleeping bag as an UQ and have to do the edges for some shockcord etc. I have an old tent that i was going to cut a strip from to creat the tube anong the sides for the cord and i was wondering whether to use a large peice of tent under the quilt as another layer/ windproofing, or will it cause condensation/sweat problems? Any advice. It would be easier to cover completely than fit a thin tube on the edges. many thanks in advance.

I wouldn't use a tent fly or floor for this, but the breathable portion of the tent body would be fine, and will give you a bit of a temp boost.

If you are thinking of using the tent material only on the underside it won't work well. The insulation will be compressed as you snug it up under the hammock. If you use it on both sides to envelope the sleeping bag, be sure to use a differential cut to prevent the insulation from being compressed.

For the shock cord piping, if you aren't completely determined to use the tent material, I would suggest using wide ribbon.

I actually used an old tent as ripstop fabric to make my UQ out of, but edged all four sides with ribbon for the shock cord. It works nicely because it's slick and the shock cord slides along it nicely, and because it comes in a determined width, it's really easy to sew and make it look nice.

    I think I used 1.5" ribbon...next time I'll use 2"
