Theres a picture on the Ray Way site with a happy cammoed quilt owner, so maybe if you asked nicely...

I was mulling over wether getting a kit would be a nice way to get together the stuff required for an underquilt project, without the hasstle of sourcing from 2 or more supliers. Note the just mulling, PnP for a lot of the stuff I read about on here is often the killer, if I can find places that are willing to ship overseas *cough* sportsmans guide *cough*

Especially with the higher shipping costs I'm sure you have to deal with, I'd try the Rayway kit. I've heard a lot of good things about the design and materials, and after shopping around for individual components for my own quilt design (hopefully prototyped after this weekend), I can vouch that his price is pretty darn good. Then again, I've never seen a Rayway quilt in person so I don't know exactly what materials go into one...but I can make a pretty educated guess.

i made one w/ the "alpine up-grade". i used it at mt rogers last week.
it's the thickest quilt i have. about 2lbs. i can check the actual thickness & weight if you want.
one important note... pay attention to the warning about trying to save a couple ozs by making it too narrow. mine stays tucked in fairly well in the hammock, but sometimes it pulls out when i turn.
if i were making another & was using two layers of insulation, i would probably stop short of the edges (maybe 6-8") with the second layer of insulation, but be sure to make the quilt wide enough to stay tucked in better.
i can check the finished width of mine too, if you like... as an exsample of what one person feels is to narrow. ...tim
I too will something make and joy in it's making

On the width. If it helps I think the Jacks size is about right at 48".

What type of material does Ray sell with his quilts. Is it sil or just DWR. Do you have to seal each quilt loop?

You don't make a quilt waterproof - then it wouldn't breathe. He (and most everybody else) therefore uses DWR for the shell and no sealing necessary...

Did those who made one get the "Gorget" & "Draft Stopper" ?
For our uses, are either needed?

If I get one, I'm getting the Alpine Upgrade. I'm torn between black & green, but leaning towards green.

I think this a great project for me to undertake. Too bad I have to wait until my birthday to get the kit.
