    Hello from beautiful SoCal!

Hey everyone, I'm a new hanger, but what first got me interested in hammocks was one of my rafting buddies. He had (I think) an ENO Singlenest (could have been a Pronest) and I tried it out for a nap one day. Ever since I had wanted one of my own so I wouldn't have to roll around on rocky river shores. I finally got myself the ENO Doublenest (more room for me alone, or invite a lady-friend for hammock naps). Now I can't wait to use it. Just one question: the carabiners that come attached to the doublenest are a little heavy for my taste; any suggestions for a lighter alternative to those biners that won't sacrifice strength? I look forward to checking out the forums here and finding some new places to go escape for a week or weekend and just "hang" out!

    Welcome from SoCal!

I know that there will be others who will provide some ideas on replacing the biners on your setup. I personally use whoopie slings on my hammock and I hang that around the knot on my marlin spike hitch. If you haven't already done so, check out these series of vids...

LA and Riverside! Right in the middle! Thanks for the tips, and the links to the videos; I learned a lot, and I didn't actually want to get any work done today anyways. Luckily we don't get bad weather that often, so hopefully I can hold off buying a tarp for a little bit. Definitely gonna look into making my own whoopie slings (found a great thread here for that one) if my NRS straps don't please me. Can't imagine why they wouldn't though; I've used them for years and never had a problem.

I actually did a few trips with my hammock without a tarp and it was great! It's just like cowboy camping but much more comfortable.
