    Making UGLY pretty: coloring tyvek

I ordered the materials for a Tyvek to make an UGLY tarp. I would like to try to give it some color. I've read the tyvek articles describing the Kiwi shoe pollish coloring method and I'm open to that method. However, I'm was wondering if anyone has ever attempted to apply a water based wood stain to Tyvek? http://www.minwax.com/wood-products/...sed-wood-stain

IDK about wood stain. I have seen Krylon Fusion paint used with some degree of success. The best approach would be to test a small piece of tyvek with each method and decide which result you like the best.

For a loud look you could cut up some pieces of the colored mason line and soak the line in water. Then lay the line out all over the tarp and it'll stain the tarp up real perty.

I think the best you can hope for is to transform an ugly piece of Tyvek into a really ugly piece of Tyvek. You won't be the first to put lipstick on a pig, however. Luck, Dude.

That's too harsh. Tyvek is wonderful stuff, the uses it can be put to are only limited by imagination. But it is what it is...beauty is as beauty does. Embrace the ugly.

    Voids the Warranty

If you try to make an UGLY tarp pretty you will void the warranty .

In the experiments I've seen the tarp looks even UGLYer. Depending on your use I would highly recommend leaving it white (beautiful for winter camping, safe and visible for summer and reflects away heat in high temps). However if you are using it for hunting or stealth then I'd be interested in any experimentation you may perform.

I'd be careful that whatever you use does not run, leech or peel off in a wilderness setting.
