I use Knotty's method with mason's line. Slipperiness does help pull your line tight. But I've never had it come off the ball of fabric at the end. That would be pretty hard if you had a seam at the end to give the ball bulk and pulled the line real tight. Of course, your suspension is usually lark's headed at the same place, so--as Gargoyle says above--you really don't NEED anything more than your suspension to tie the ends off.
