    Space blanket

I seem some have used a space blanket. In the warmer weather (min 50's) should I just use a sleeping pad and space blanket?

Might run into a condensation issue

you can.. if you want to sweat to death

you would be better off with a cheap fleece sleeping bag from wally world for around $10
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

Yes, space blankets CAN work, but they don't breathe.

in the 50's, you really need just minimal insulation, but some find pads trap condensation badly too.

A cheap alternative, if weight isn't a big deal, is the Poncho Liner Underquilt:
for less than $30, you can put one together in an hour...

I agree with John. It is what we used for the first 6 to 8 months. They do work. I made the no sew version, which worked great to add additional layers when needed. I'm also glad I did the no sew version, because I recently made us all down UQ and now I can use our poncho liners for other things....make shift top quilt, over cover, additional blanket, whatever arises.

Finally got time to test my No Sew PLUQ (thanks Dejoha for the very clear illustration) last weekend out for two nights (around 48 Fahrenheit [9 Celsius]).

Slept great. Waiting for some fatter bankaccount to order some gear like a Baby Orca (and a HG cuben Palace) .... In the mean time the PLUQ looks like a winner....

Tried space blankets: condensation and NOISE means to me ... use in emergency only ....

Try a space blanket in near zero humidity... with all the synthetic material, it's like sleeping inside an electrostatic generator!

There's another tread about a dri-ducks poncho under-cover. Seems like a space blanket between the bottom of the hammock and the under-cover would result in additional warmth at almost no weight gain and the condensation wouldn't be an issue if you used a light fleece blanket or a down top quilt.

+1. I've used this in the 50 degree range. It got me through the night, but DON'T DO IT MAN. You wake up with a shudder...instantly.
