    Basic Bug Net Construction Question

About to make a bug net for my bridge hammock and I need to sew two pieces of noseeum netting together. Can they be sewn directly to each other using a short stitch length or should I sew each piece of noseeum to grossgrain?

I want to save the weight to the grossgrain if possible as it will run for approximately 12 feet, but durability is the greater concern.

    Thanks for the help,
    Mark

I doubt it. But don't take my word for it. Do a test piece.

You can probably put the two pieces of noseeum together, backed by ONE piece of grosgrain, and sew that. As long as you have some backing, your stitches should not get tangled. Again, do a test. Good luck from this Plant H.S. grad.

    I'm a total newbie -- I made mine w/o grosgrain.
Check out http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ghlight=bugnet and modify as needed.

    hope that helped.

Ive seen two pieces of netting together several times without any other material involved and it holds just fine. The tricky part of sewing netting is controlling the stretch!

It sews together fine. No need for the gg.
I lay my pieces together and fold (roll) a hem into them, then stitch away.
Since your stitching similar items together, the stretch factor isnt really an issue. You may need to play with the tension some, practice on scraps first.

    Thanks

Thanks for the responses. I thought I saw this somewhere on one of the many bugnet videos posted, but it just seemed unlikely somehow.

OK time to start building. Those skeeters are killing me!

No need to worry about grossgrain, just fold over the edges twice to create a seam and it will be just fine. I do it all the time.
