In Oregon, we have some big trees, so I bring 8' straps and 8' whoopies and have used the entire length many times. I use hiking poles to push the straps up high to get the right geometry. But in Florida, I bet you could get by with a lot less.

Mine are just way too long Whatever the standard is that I bought them at, either 6 or 8'. Especially with my longer DIY hammocks. I think I'll change over to amsteel chain links and will adjust with with tree straps (mule tape). Maybe pack the whoopies to larkshead on if I need them.
