First hammock, first hang - FAILED!

Last week i got my first hammock and on friday I took it out to the piny woods.
It was a beautiful day and to start with everything went according to plan.

I went to a nationally own forrest near my house where solo camping is allowed in most of the area.

The WB Blackbrid was a breeze to set up with webbing and carabiners. I have made a continual ridgeline with Prusik knots and Figure Nines for the Edge Tarp which worked really well. Only thing was that i had underestimated the size of the trees so the ridgeline did not come all the way around both trees. Luckily there was a small branche that i could secure the tarp to.

After making dinner I went for a walk in the area and then it was off the sleep in the hammock.

3:30 in the morning I woke up freezing from the dreaded cold butt syndrome. My pads were not up to the task of keeping me warm in 37 degrees, and after an hour of trying to get comfortable, I decided to pack up and go home

It would appear that i do need an underquilt after all Thinking about making one out of an old sleeping bag that i have - maybe that would work

Here are some pix... and a link to an interactive panorama of camp

    Panorama of camp.

Sorry to hear you suffered CBS. I liked the spot you chose to hang at. The Forest is lovely there. You may have to get an UQ if that's the route you want to go. Have you tried to sleep on an emergency blanket with the pad ? This helps since it reflects your heat back to you. Good luck figuring it out. Love the pics and thanks for sharing!

What kind of pad did you have? The pictures look great! But, the panorama seems to go up in the air instead of around camp. Or, maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Was the wind blowing at all at night? Because it looks like if the wind came blowing up the hill you would have no protection from it.

I used my left and right arrow keys and it worked perfectly.

    Thanks for posting, TS!!!

Cold Butt or Cold Back? (as in shoulders) Maybe your pad wasn't wide enough/thick enough?

I learned on my first over-night hang, to always set the UQ (see Buffalo River in "trip reports). This was just a few weeks ago in Arkansas. Night temp the first night was down to around 60 degrees Farenheight. I misstakenly thought "my TQ will be enough" WRONG! after that, I set the UQ and then regulated within the hammock with the TQ and a silk bag liner. I had my CCF pad with me, but never used it. The UQ worked just great (it was my 30 degree/3 season one from Warbonnent). Nights for the rest of the trip were down to 48 and 50 degree and I was just fine.
