Hammock Length

Sorry if this has been posted before (I think it has), but I searched and could not find it.
I also, looked on some other sites and still had no luck.

I'm planning on making my own hammock, but I'm a little taller than average (6 feet 4 inches) and I'm wondering if I need to add some length to the plans I found online...

What do you guys think?

what is the length they said? hammocks can be from 8' to 12'

I'm 5'10", and find a raw fabric length of 10.5' to make the perfect hammock (finishes out to approx. 122"), for me as well as my taller friends. You might try starting with 11' of fabric - it's always easier to trim a bit than lengthen it...

I'm planning on doubling the material so if I made it 11 feet to start that would be 22 feet total which is a little over 7 yards.
So that would be right I think....

I'm 6' 1" and I love mine at 11'. There is room to spare too.

Ditto, exactly.

I find when building them for others that their height plus 5' works best for a gathered end.

Another ditto for this 6'-1" hanger who thinks 11' is perfect!

If I have an 11foot hammock, how far apart do I need the trees to be?

Minimum of 15 feet (2 feet on either side) to allow for adjustments. The 30 deg angle of the straps to the hammock is pretty standard for max comfort. If you get the best comfort level, "Twang" the ridgeline and next set up, duplicate the tension... Main reason ridgeline is important, to achieve reproducible amount of "Sag" in the hammock material.
