I went out on a short hike on the AT to Hertlein Campsite on last Friday. This was a trip to introduce my daughter to backpacking and since the weather was forecast as beautiful (upper 70's in the day and a low of 50 at night) I decided to make it my first hang.
Armed with a newly made set of whoopie slings from SlowBro's plan and a quickly made Fronkey bug net, my Alps inflatable pad and a space blanket and my down sleeping bag opened up as a quilt. My Noah's Tarp completed my setup.
I only had a few instances of cold cheek syndrome when I slipped off the edge of my 20" pad, but a small shift corrected the issue. I also didn't have my hammock level enough and ended up slipping down towards my feet, but a quick adjustment of the whoopie sling solved that.
Unfortunately I did not run into Bat on the trail, but Alien (a through hiker from Switzerland was interested in my setup). Overall I had a great time (so did my daughter) and I'm looking forward to add hanging into my regular camping schedule.
A big thanks to all the HF members for your help and inspiration.
