New convert seeks less back aches and more relaxation

    Hey Everyone!
I suppose it's time to get my first post on here, because I have lots of questions, and little time before my first trip of the year! yeah, I know, it's a bit late for Norther Illinois and Wisconsin season, but work's been tough lately, so here I am, preparing for my first trip out with my hammock.

I can't sleep in a tent anymore, well, mainly because I'm in my 30s, but mostly because I can't stand for my back to be sore each morning on the trail or at the site!

I do have one question. Where can I find some silnylon to make a tarp with? I've tried Speer Hammocks, but they only sell the whole kit, and I already have a hammock. I want to make it myself. Being a prior Navy guy, I know my way around a sewing machine, and my grandma needs a new hobby, so why not join her at the sewing machine, right?

Anyways, love reading the threads and discussions, and looking forward to some post trip posts from Southern Wisconsin!

    See you on the trail!

There are alot of places online you can get silnylon, but you're in luck, Vogue Fabrics, right there in Chicago, carries a ton of rip stop nylon, most of it silicone coated, in a wide amount of colors. Plus, its usually only $6 a yard or less. Last time I was there, they had some green digital camoflauge silnylon on clearance for $1.29 a yard. Good luck and welcome to HF!
