Colorado Noob Hanger - First trip is today!

    Hey All,

    Just wanted to introduce myself.

I kind of fell into this whole hammock camping thing when TrekLight had a pretty sweet sale and I picked up a double last week. They had an interesting article on their website about camping in a hammock and it intrigued me because I've been a Tworder for my whole life.

After some digging around I came across this site and decided to get all geared up for an impromptu trip later today up the Poudre Canyon here in Colorado.

Here's my setup for the weekend:
*TrekLight Double Hammock & included suspension
    *Chinook 9.5' x 12' Tarp
*Homemade Peapod from a 0* bag
    *Closed Foam pad
*Spare sleeping bag just in case.

It's supposed to get down to the mid 30's at night but I think I should be fine. This is essentially a car camping trip since it's my first time and I brought a backup tent in the hopefully unlikely event I have a rough time with the hammock.

Anyway, this is getting a little wordy - looking forward to my hang over the next 4 days. I'll be sure to report back with pictures and an initial reaction.

Thanks for all of the info on here - it's proven to be very valuable in preparation.

    Cheers,

    Lucas

Thanks - will do. This is on some family land and part of the reason for going up there is to put up Pheromone patches on the trees to protect them from the beetles.

Welcome! Last time I was out there I took a tent to 10000' because I was afraid of getting cold. That won't happen again! Taking the tent, that is.

We welcome another Colorado hanger! You might want to check out the "Hangouts, campouts, and trip planning section". We are planning a Colorado Summer Hang in the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area in early July. No better way to meet great people, learn lots, and have a great time. Here is a link to the latest planning thread: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=52102

And if you really have some time to kill, here is a link to the original planning thread, started last Fall.
