Ray Way Quilt mod to be an underquilt?

From reading many posts today I ordered a Ray Way (Ray Jardine) Quilt Kilt.

After doing more reading I decided that maybe I won't do the footbox and mod this to be an underquilt.

Does anyone know of any posts about doing such a project?

FYI, I ordered the Alpine upgrade as well as the longer version.

The kit should have nearly everything you need to make it an UQ with the exception of the shock cord and a little extra material to make the cord channels. Based on that I would use the KickAss Quilt instructions which will get you a proven UQ. At that point, it may not be the most versatile of quilts, but I've not really tried out my KAQ to see how it works for just lying around. YMMV

I tried getting to the KAQ web page but got an error. That site may be down. If you're interested, just check out the tutorial here.

    interesting.

I think i might put a few metal grommets on the ends and side to "tie it off." Adding all of those drawstrings is a lot of work.

I would counsel against metal grommets for two reasons. Metal grommets have been known to slip and not hold particularly well in the very thin fabrics. 2) the metal grommets may slice the fabric leaving a gaping down escape hatch which can not be closed.

I would advise using some grosgrain ribbon and stitching it into the seam during construction.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Just catching up on this thread and have to add my "amen" to the above. Don't know about your hanging experience, but when I lend out my hammocks I always tell the prospective "hanger:" no metal belts, keys, pocket/clip knives, or anything that may leave them on the ground looking-up. I don't want/need the lawsuit

Something to consider w/ all DIY as well. Sorry to give advice where unsolicited: ignore it if you know it.

    Peace,

    nope i appreciate it!

I have several yards of some really cheap sil nylon and some even cheaper polyester fill that I might experiment with tonight if I can find my sewing kit.
