How do you ID your gear bags?

Hammock bags, tarp bags, UQ/TQ ad infinitum bags. How do you know which is which?

I tried putting a strip of masking tape and using a marker, but it peeled off almost immediately.

Most of my gear bags are dark colors, plus using a marker directly to a bag could decrease resale value.

Maybe some sort of really lightweight luggage tag style would work. A mini-ziplock would work, but not likely to last very long.

These are pretty, but pricey. hmmmm I think I bought a pattern that included luggage tags.

    any ideas?

After awhile, you just know which is which. All the bags are different sizes and feel different too. Plus, when I am reaching into to get any of my 4 main hammock bags, I am most likely going to grab the other 3 in a couple seconds anyways. So, they all make it out and get used at pretty much the same time.

I agree with the last post. I also pack my thing in the order I'll need them. Sleeping bag last, UQ, hammock, and tarp is hung first. That way they are where I expect them.

Over the years I have reduced my gear down to just a couple of bags. But in the early days I would use different colored bags.

I pack in order too. My tarp is the first thing to be pulled out and then my hammock, uq, tq..so those are the last things packed. After that it's just sort-of a free for all jumbled in the bottom of my bag .

All our bags/TQs are in identical storage bags, so I put a little cardboard label on the end of each drawstring. Works a treat! I've made my tarp sacks out of the same material as the enclosed tarp, so it's easy to know which is which.

Watching with interest. I could no more tell you which bag came with which piece of gear than a man in the moon, and it makes me nutz.

I use a 4" piece of either white vinyl (electrical) tape or athletic tape. Folded over a handle or string, stuck to itself. I label with a sharpie. Easy to peel off and re-label if I change out the contents.

I've got a few hammocks and similar stuff bags, so it's been convenient to lable them so I can tell which one I'm grabbing when I loan gear out, or am packing for a trip.

I Use a green Cuben bishop for my hammock. Quilts are the big green things in the bottom of my trash bag. :-) Then a bugnet/head net with all my clothes in it..dual use/ see through ( also in trash bag). Tarp is in Snake skins in outer mesh pocket. Cook kit in a green cuben sack in outer side pocket. Less bags...less mess. Jmo

Use different colored cord locks for each stuff sack. Or tie a colored piece of string onto each. Soon enough you will know which color is which piece of gear. I know which hammock is which because they are in same colored sacks. I know the tarps for the same reason. Maybe I just remember colors and gear better than some. I do know that if it has been a while since I used something, I need to open it up in the gear room to recall which is which. The stuff I use more frequently is committed to memory.
