    Suspension Angle for Bridge

Hello everyone, I have a question concerning the suspension angle for a bridge hammock. The section I'm referring to is from tree to hammock.

From all my reading the recommended strap angle of 30-degrees from tree to hammock is best for a gathered end hammock, I do realize there are exceptions.

What is the recommended strap angle from tree to bridge hammock?

    thanks

I have not really paid much attention to this angle with the bridges I have used. With my JRBs, would adjust it by the method of tensioning until the net was was tight and then back off a bit.

Or, setting a RL up to the max suggested by JRB, which is max of 8'9" ( between the suspension triangle's outer rings) on the newer UL zippered models, a bit longer on the older removable net models. This always results in- when viewed from the side- the center of the hammock being curved up higher than the ends, about opposite of a non bridged hammock, which is usually lowest in the middle.

Is it necessary to pay attention to the angle- at least with JRB bridges - if you are following the hanging directions that come with the hammock? The directions I mentioned in my previous post? Though I imagine that results in that 30* angle, I never try to figure out what the angle is. I just go by the distance between the outer rings or less precisely, the tightness of the net.

The reason for the 30 degree recommendation is that at that angle the force on the suspension to the tree is the occupant's body weight. That works regardless of whether the hammock is a bridge or a gathered hammock.

There might be some concern about the force on the sides of the suspension triangle, but if I've done my sums correctly, when one uses the standard guidelines for suspension side length, the force on each side is smaller than that on the stem to the tree.
