Using USPS items for anything other than the designed purpose (mailing) is considered a crime.
I know your recycling, but the US government doesnt have that outlook.

Very cool! I wish I had used smaller cord. The paracord and cordlock are 5 times as heavy as the bag! lol

Man, I thought keeping it out of the landfill would be enough. The other DIY uses Fed-Ex envelopes. That might be a safer way to go. I think they have more sizes also.

Instead of using a cord lock, try this knot. Depending on the cord, it will be much lighter! Here is a link to how-to video:

How long is the arrest list on that one?

I think the cell full of criminals from this crime is next door to the one full of people who dropped an invitation off a friend mail box...

It IS technically a crime, but I think the phrase "considered a crime" is a bit missleading, because unless you have some malicious scheme going on I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who considers it as such. I don't think there is a city in the USA that has a low enough crime rate that they would even bother with someone who went to the station and confessed, let alone tracking you down...

I would posit that once it has been mailed, it has been used for its designed purpose and thereafter can be used for whatever you want.

If it's been mailed it's DEF not a crime....so let's just assume that all of these have been mailed

I made a zippered storage bag for my tarp/hammock/suspension out of tyvek (same materials as USPS envelopes). I ended up replacing it with a Ripstop version but there really wasn't a need to. Tyvek has held up great. Also made a frame bag out of used envelopes. You've reminded me I need a few drawstring stuff sacks. Nice tutorial!
