If I'm correct it really doesn't matter strength wise since you are putting the weight on the knot not the toggle. The toggle is more of a place (knot) holder. Go with what weighs less and what you like.

Arrows are made to different shaft deflection amounts - shaft stiffness.

I would choose aluminum due to carbon being more difficult to cut. For toggles a cheap aluminum shaft can be cut with hacksaw. I fear carbon would splinter.

I use carbon. I have also crushed carbon. But i still use carbon

I would think the alum would be more crush resistant than the carbon. Myself, I use a piece of solid plastic coat hanger cut to about 2- 3 inches.

You should go with whichever is lighter. If your knot in tied right, your whoopie should be around it and not be straining the toggle.

Test both and see how you like either. Know that either come in varying wall thickness', and that the thicker wall would be better.
