    New Guys with Shock Factor

Continuing with this month’s “Accessory DIY” theme, we throw together a couple sets of guy lines with integrated shock cord tensioners today. The 2mm by 4’ Dynaglide line starts with a locked brummel Eye (3” circumference & 2” buried tail) and has a 6" piece of shock cord inserted through the line three times (2 inches apart) with both tails buried, stitched and whipped (for good measure). The original goal was to do a UCR style adjustment on the tarp end but it didn’t work out so we went back to prusiks for now (thinking about DutchWare for this!). Destructive testing went well, we used the guy lines to string up a retired piece of poly-pro (makeshift net) and played volley ball, they took the beating and bounced back no problem!

    Really Awesome.
Hammocking, car camping, backpacking, kayaking, and mountain biking. Getting in touch with nature is getting expensive. Good thing I can DIY!

I tried that with some Zing-it! and the shock cord kept coming out of the bury when it was stretched. How do you keep this from happening?

Please bear with me, I'll draft an illustrated "Step-by-Step" and post it shortly. The sheathing on the shock-cord needs to be milked out to provide a 1" tail on both ends, once buried the stitching goes through the tail before whipping.

As for selling, I'm not overly efficient when it comes to producing gear... I’m slow at repetitive tasks and tend to get hung up on the details but… I'll post the step-by-step and answer any DIY'r questions.

As usual buddy, top notch DIY. I like my JRB style tensioners, but these may perform better in the cold. I have some green novabraid that would look good in this configuration.
