Great Setup. I'm addicted to DIY also. I'm gonna have to steal part of your idea and tweak it my liking alittle. Cant wait to see the tutorial.

Well arent we just a bunch of thieves...
This place is awesome.
Hey quick thought, how bout putting the SC completely inside the Amsteel and diamond knotting the ends to lock the SC in place. Or you could just whip the SC into place and Shrink Wrap like you were saying. Thoughts?
Great minds think alike!!
I posted a similar thread a while back in the Tarp subsection

I hadn't considered working with just the kernmantle of the SC, that's brilliant!

That is one of the best ones I've seen. Very nice work man.
The best thing I've seen all month - brilliant!
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

You posted these back in 2010 but, oddly I didn’t find this thread when I was looking for an alternative to surgical tubing type tensioners, "thinking alike" was indeed the case but originality is yours with a tip of the hat . So…2.5 years later...Are they still in use, how did they hold up??
Well, thanks, I may have to revisit them now that you thought of using just the kernmantle.
I actually never did put the one I made to use. I guess I just string my tarps tight enough that it's not a big deal. I was just playing around with an idea to keep them from snagging, because on my first tarp, I put hair bands on with clove hitches, and they were always snagging on each other. My subsequent tarps, I just left the tensioners off.
Happy DIYing!

My ego said, SURE you can.
Half way in my body said OH NO YOU CAN'T

Sweet idea and like you say more of a diy addiction for building them but has anyone tried to simply crimp each end of the SC to the Guy and cover the crimps with Heat Shrink? Seems lots quicker and easier to do so. I have some barrel crimps here somewhere and will try to find them.
Again very sweet!
