It always amazeses me as to how much effort a person will go to just to avoid using a marlin spike hitch. In far less time than it takes to think of a peice of hardware and draw your design you can master the msh. Actually you should be able to master it in about two minutes or less. Just check out youtube. Im not sure why people seem to not trust it. I have used sticks but prefer my aluminum slurpee straw toggles. Not because of strength. They are super easy to remove and look cool. Just place the whoopie on the knot behind the toggle and your good. Ok what if you mess up and place the whoopie on the strap behind the knot? You wake up in the morning after a good nights sleep and go oops I missed. Not a big deal I have done it a couple times. The msh is also a fast easy and secure way to attach yout tent stakes to your lines on your tarp. Super easy to get them exactly where you want them on the line.

Thought about the whoopie hook but I don't necessarily like the idea of have one giant line (whoopie+straps) that I may or may not have to loop several times around smaller or more closely spaced trees. Its different in that your whoopie slings remain on your hammock and you can either slide the hardware into the end loop or if you need a shorter line you can use a MSH and slide it in in place of a toggle but have a hook for more security.

I suppose the issue isn't really worth debating or discussing though. There's already an almost identical piece of hardware out there called an "Elephant Trunk" which I didn't know existed until the 2nd poster brought it to my attention. I'll probably pick them up and give them a go.

If you just put a whoopie hook on a continuous loop you have this product.

Dutch Biner works exactly the same in that configuration.

    Pan

PS... it will not fall out either

PPS... MORE IMPORTANTLY... the drawn concept will twist like the original DCs that were not sewn in to prevent rotation...recall those would break on the the little foot hook if the stress of an improperly hung hammock all went on a twisted DC "foot".....ALCON...It is for this reason the DC were twice improved to their current design.
