No hiking permits needed. Only Bicycle or horses need permits, plus you need a sticker to launch a boat in Monroe. Mule

Just not as much. Make you cat cut hems narrow. It is easier to ease the fabric around the curves the narrower it is. I tried for 3/8". I also sewed a line of twill tape along the hem and sewed it in with the first roll. That helped stablize the fabric. Be slow and methoidical. It is worth the effort when it pays off.
Looking at Brian's tarps, I don't think he rolls or hems the edges of the catcuts at all. I think he just adds the Grossgrain ribbon/webbing around them. Mule

BTW, I think the biggest thing is cutting your seems cleanly and absolutely straight. Then you can roll the seams smaller and more uniformly. Here are a couple of shots of my DIY tarp, THE BAT-TARP! It is made of coated nylon, a little heavy, but it worked out well.

You are correct. I was not clear. He suggests that you roll whole of the tarp fabric into one bundle. This is to make it easier to manage while you are working on the seams. He does not do anything to the hems beyond the Bias tape. I did not follow those directions in the least...

I did not roll the tarp fabric and I did roll the hems. I hope that clears that up... thanks for calling that one. It needed to be clarified.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
