First off, I’d just like to say that I searched for something similar but didn’t come up with anything. I’m sure someone has already done this, as it’s not very complicated or novel. Just checkin to see what you guys think about this setup.
I really like the idea of Single Line Suspension. However, it doesn’t quite work for me because I use a sleeping bag as a pea pod, and at least one end of the hammock needs to be free.
I also like the idea of a self-tensioning tarp ridgeline:

But sometimes when the weather is nice, I like to camp without a tarp but still have the ridgeline for a bugnet or organizer. I realize you can use this setup for that, but with a biner and the extra length of line, it’s a little heavier.
So to combine all the features I was looking for, I simply took the shock cord tarp tensioner idea and added it to my ridgeline (1/8th Amsteel), and then made it detachable.
Secured end:
Self-Tensioning and detachable end:
Stretched when hammock is occupied:
This little mod keeps my ridgeline tight at all times, and keeps it from being over stressed when I'm in the hammock. Once I dial it in I'll probably splice the loops in instead of figure 8 knots
If anyone has any ideas or has spotted any flaws, I'd love to hear them!
