Need help in Kisatchie National Forset!

Can anyone recommend a good place to hang south of Alexandria Louisiana?

I'm heading to Kisatchie national forest this weekend and have NO idea where to hang. I'm going with the family (wife and 2 daughters) so probably don't want to get to far from parking. the wife has business in Alexandria on Monday so I thought it would be great if we could do a little hanging. Thanks

The Wild Azalea Trail is a great place to hang. We have held group hangs at the Evangline Camp. It's very primitive and has only restroom facilites. There is no water, I repeat, there is NO WATER at the campsite.

From the Kisatchie National Forest Website

The Evangeline Camp is located 4 miles south of Louisiana Highway 28 on Forest Road 273 (Messina Road). This road is paved until about 1/2 mile from the camp where it turns into gravel. The best camping flats are just down the hill past the vaulted restroom. There is no water at this site.

Directions: From Alexandria, drive west on Louisiana Highway 28 for 8 miles to Forest Road 273. Turn left (south) on Messina Road (FR 273) and go 4 miles to the signed camping area and Wild Azalea Trailhead on the right.

Here are some videos made at the campsite and along the trail.

Good luck and I hope you have fun.

I agree with the Wild Azalea Trail. Louisiana doesn't have a lot of good backpacking opportunities, but this is a good one.
