The heat since the storm passed through has been bad. Have fun hitting the trail this weekend. I am trying to get up there in July for a break from the heat & humidity as well.

I am actually open to ideas.

I was thinking:

"I am going to do Woody Gap to Neels Gap. In on Saturday morning, out on Sunday. Or Springer Mountain to Hightower Gap.

I will drive up from Jax, FL Friday evening and hang near the trail head."

Springer to Hightower is a good one, but Woody to Neels is the cats pajamas absolutely beautiful. One of the best hikes in GA.

If you are planning on camping near Blood Mt., there may be a bear proof container requirement still in effect, wouldn't hurt to check it out.

Agreed, got the well known Blood Mt on one end and the less well-known, best overlook in GA, Big Cedar/Preachers Rock on the other end. And each end of the trailhead is excellent in terms of the drive getting there and facilities - gotta love walking into Mountain Crossings after 10m and enjoying a nice cold Coke, as well as oogling nice gear.

Heh heh, hope the bears get the memo!

Seriously, I saw one of these bears last year, or at least I figure it was one taking camper food. He was way bigger than any other black bear I'd seen before, seemed especially big for mid-spring. I don't know that this one would be inclined to stop taking food and even might expect him to get more desperate if it gets less easy to do so. I'm no expert on the subject, I just know he was going to require a lot of daily caloric intake to stay happy.

And FYI, I saw this one on the other side of Hwy19, not the restricted area. I think this other side was restricted in the last few years for the same reason.
